Note :

A semi-intaglio photomechanical non-screen halftone process, depending partly on the lithographic principle.
Note :
The process is based on the action of light on bichromatized gelatine. Where the light has affected the glass plate the gelatine hardens; the hardened parts retain the ink, and the soft or watery portions repel it. Reticulations in the surface, finer or coarser according as the action of the light has been lesser or greater, provide the "bite" and ensure reproduction of halftones without the need of a screen. It is used for art reproductions in comparatively short runs. Collotype is known by a number of names.
