Date :Définition
An unsaturated cyclic compound, m.p. 170 °C (338 °F), containing two hydroxyl groups; the synonym para-dihydroxybenzene explicitly describes its structure, represented by the formula C6H4(OH)2.
Note :
It is made in several ways, (1) by reducing para-benzoquinone with sulfur dioxide, (2) by formation of quinone from aniline by oxidation, followed by reduction. Hydroquinone is a strong reducing agent and thus is an effective photographic developing agent; it is also used as an oxidation inhibitor and stabilizer in organic materials such as rubber, paints, oils. etc.
