Définition :
Poudre blanche, très légère : très avide d'eau et s'y combine avec bruit; monoclinique, vitreux, transparent ou amorphe; sublimable vers 360°; soluble éthanol et méthanol froids. Éviter le contact avec la peau et les yeux.
Note :
Emplois : agent de déshydratation énergétique; préparation du phosphore et des anhydrides d'acides.

Phosphorus pentoxide, P2O5, a white solid, m.p. 563° C (1045° F) sublimes at 300° C (572° F); made by the complete combustion of phosphorus in dry air. It reacts exothermically with water to form metaphosphoric acid, HPO3, or orthophosphoric acid, H3PO4, if the water is in excess.
Note :
It is used as dehydrating agent and is the source of pure phosphates used in detergents and foods; it is also used in the preparation of many inorganic andorganic phosphorus compounds.
