Carbonyl chloride, COCl2, b.p. 8.3 °C (47 °F), a highly toxic and reactive gas made by the reaction of chlorine and carbon monoxide over an activated carbon catalyst.
Note :
It is shipped in liquid form under pressure in steel tanks. Phosgene is used in large quantities in the manufacture of isocyanates, polyurethane, and polycarbonate polymers, carbamates, dyes, herbicides, and pesticides.
