Date :Définition
Any of a large group of synthetic organic chemicals made by replacing one or more of the hydrogen atoms of a hydrocarbon with chlorine. Well-known and widely used examples are carbon tetrachloride, chloroform, trichloroethylene, p-dichlorobenzene, chloronaphthalene, and DDT.
Note :
The hydrocarbons may be either aliphatic or aromatic and the materials either solid or liquid; they are used as cleaning fluids, fumigants, and insecticides. Many are quite toxic (carbon tetrachloride) and often have a sharp and distinctive odor. Some also have a narcotic and anesthetic effect (chloroform); their handling and use in any concentrated form should be performed with caution. One group of insecticides (DDT and related compounds) is noteworthy in view of environmental considerations.
