Définition :
Il est utilisé, comme le chlorure de méthyle, pour l'anesthésie locale. Il sert à la préparation de nombreux composés tels que le plomb tétraéthyle, la diéthylaniline.

Emplois : solvant; agent de réfrigération; anesthésique local et général; préparations insecticides; agent de synthèse pour introduire le groupement éthyle; préparation du plomb-tétraéthyle.

Gas at ordinary temperature; compressed, a colorless, highly flammable, volatile liquid. Etherlike odor, burning taste. Stable and non corrosive when dry but will hydrolyze in the presence of water or alkalies. Miscible with most of the commonly used solvents; slightly soluble in water. Sp.gr. 0.9214; m.p. -140.85 °C; b.p. 12.5 °C;... flash point (closed up) -58 °F. Flammable limits in air 3.8- 15.4 % by volume.

Uses: Manufacture of tetraethyl lead and ethyl-cellulose... Danger: Extremely flammable.
