Date :Définition
A monohydric heterocyclic alcohol, b.p. 170 °C (338 °F), in which an oxigen atom appears in the formula is C4H3OCH2OH. It can be made by reacting furfural with sodium hydroxide without a catalyst, or directly from furfural by catalytic hydrogenation.
Note :
It readily polymerizes in the presence of acids to form furna resins, which is its largest commercial use; it also has application as a dispersing agent and solvent for dyes, as an ingredient of adhesive and sealants, and as a source of tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol by hydrogenation.
