Date :Définition
A chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbon (C6H4Cl2), having three isomeric forms, depending on the positions at which the chlorine atoms are attached to the benzene nucleus. The meta- and ortho-forms are liquids used as disinfectants and insecticides and to some extent as solvents. The para- isomer is a crystalline solid, familiar as moth balls.
Note :
All forms emit vapors that are irritant to the eyes and the mucous membranes, and inhalation should be avoided, especially of the ortho- form. These compounds also have some use as chemical intermediates and as analytical reagents.
