Derived by dehydration of ethylene glycol, it is a liquid slightly heavier than water, b.p. 101.3 °C (214 °F), and has the low ignition temperature of 180 °C (355 °F).
It is also quite poisonous when its vapors are inhaled or when absorbed by the skin. Dioxane is a widely used solvent in the coatings industry and is also a good dispersing and wetting agent. It is volatile and should be kept away from sparks and open flame.
