A cyclic terpene hydrocarbon, b.p. 175 °C (347 °F), having the formula C10H16; it can be regarded as a dimer of isoprene (C5H8). It can be obtained by distillation of essential oils and of wood turpentine. Being unsaturated, it oxidizes readily.
Note :
Dipentene is a combustible, colorless liquid; it is used as a solvent for many materials of similar chemical nature (rosin, rubber, waxes, etc.) and as a dispersing agent in coating formulations, printing inks, and paint driers.
