Date :Définition
This principle, enunciated by John Dalton (1766-1844), an english chemist, in 1807, states that the partial pressure of a gas in any mixture of gases is the pressure that any one of the component gases would exert if that component occupied the same volume as the mixture at the same temperature. Thus, if a mixture of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen occupies a give volume, the partial pressure of any one of the three is the same as the pressure it would exert if the other two were not present and the one gas occupied the same volume as the original mixture. The law also states that the total pressure of the mixture is equal to the sum of the partial pressures of the gases.
