Date :Définition
The tendency of a metal, metallic oxide, or (rarely) an organic substance to accelerate the chemical combination of other substances; this is known as catalytic activity. Some metals are active catalysts for given reactions and others are not. A fine state of subdivision usually increases the activity of a substance by exposing a maximum area of solid surface to the reacting gases.
The tendancy of a metal high in the electromotive series to replace another metal, lower in the series, from its compounds; for example, magnesium will replace copper in copper sulfate to form magnesium sulfate, releasing free metallic copper. The electromotive series is also called the activity series or the displacement series.Terme :
