A versatile group of ionizing compounds derived from reactions between amines and alkyl- or aryl-containing materials. They comprise a nitrogen atom to which four organic groups are attached (the cation) and a negatively charged group or atom (the anion); ((...)).
Note :
The cations formed on ionization are powerful bases which are water-soluble. Their most distinctive property is their bactericidal and disinfecting ability; they are readily adsorbed on surfaces, and their electrical conductivity makes them useful as antistatic agents on fabrics. They are also excellent dyeing auxiliaries, wetting agents, demulsifiers, and accelerators of photographic development.
