Date :Définition
Action by a union under its constitution and bylaws revoking an individual's membership in the union. Such action may stem from failure to pay dues, violation of union regulations, engaging in conduct unbecoming a union member (such as open attack upon the leadership), embezzling of funds, dual unionism, or other violations of the union's constitution or bylaws.
Note :
Procedures generally are established for hearings before the local union and final appeal to the convention of the national union. It is also possible to appeal to the courts. Under the Taft-Hartley Act the only lawful ground for discharge under a union-shop agreement is failure to pay the periodic dues required under the contract, even though the employee may no longer be a member in good standing in the union.
