The art of using a divining- or dowsing-rod, a V-shaped twig, usually about a third of a metre long, preferably of hazel or roman wood, wire, whale-bone or metal.
Notes :
If the two ends are held firmly, one in each hand, by someone with the gift (about one in ten of the population) the apex end of the twig will inexorably move downwards to denote running water.
Derivation: dowse, to; dowser, noun.
The terms "dowsing" and "radiesthesia" are now virtually synonymous, and "radiesthésie" is generally used throughout France to include all forms of dowsing.Termes :
