Type of extrasensory perception in which one has apparent awareness of future events.
Notes :
Derivation: cognise, to; cognition, noun; postcognitive, adjective; precognitive, adjective; non-precognitive, adjective; precognize, to; precognitively, adverb; postcognition, noun; postcognize, to; precognizer, noun; cognisant, adjective; recognition, noun; cognitive, adjective.
When the event foreseen is not precisely outlined or is too insubstantial to prompt a prophetic utterance, "premonition" is the more appropriate term. For vague future events of a personal nature, "presentiment" should be employed. If the percipient is positive that the event in question is about to happen, we may use the term "precognition". If the knowledge takes visual form, "prevision" is more appropriate. When predictions involving the fate of larger units, countries, or nations are made, "prophecy" is the more appropriate term.Terme :
