Date :Note :
Term used to denote the immensely powerful, short range force which binds the particles of the nucleus of an atom together against the disintegrative force of the positively charged particles of the nucleus (the protons). It is the result of part of the mass of the individual nucleons being converted into energy on coming together to form a nucleus (according to the formula e = mc²) and the potential energy of the nucleus - nuclear energy - lies in this binding force.
