Date :Définition
A unit of heat defined as the quantity of heat required to raise the temperature of one gramme of water by one degree centigrade.
The quantity of heat required to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water ((by)) 1 ((degree C)).Notes :
When capitalized, Calorie means 1000 calories (or 1 Kcal). Therefore one Calorie is equal to 4184 joules.
A more rigorous definition requires the specifications of the actual water temperature, and the "calorie" usually referred to is strictly the "15 °C calories", i.e. the amount of water needed to raise the temperature of one gramme of water from 14.5 °C to 15.5 °C. The calorie is one of the CGS (centrigrade gramme second) system of units and is related to the SI (Système International) system of units by the relationship, (where the joule is the SI unit of heat measurement). The "calorie" unit used when referring to the subject of human carbohydrate requirements is more strictly referred to as the kilocalorie or Calorie (with capital C) and is equivalent to 1000 calories, as defined above.Terme :
