Ablation model in which it is assumed that the ionization process is completed several pellet radii away from the pellet surface and that a single average degree of ionization, f i, prevails from the pellet surface up to a surface of radius r1. According to this model, the shielding effect of a magnetic field is manifested by two concurrent and interdependent processes : the hydrodynamic expansion of a partially ionized ablatant may modify the magnetic field geometry and thus the energy flux is transported to the pellet along the magnetic flux surfaces, and (b) the deceleration of the radial flow of the ablatant by the magnetic field and the gradual conversion to a flow along the field lines, affecting the flow parameters and their distribution in the shielding cloud.
