This is most common of all windows. It has upper and lower sashes, of the same size, that slide up and down. They can be opened at the top or bottom and do not project. They do not get in the way of treatments on the inside, plants on the outside.
There are many variations of double-hung windows. In one kind the friction pressure between sash and weatherstripping holds sash open at the desired point. The sash may be removed by depressing it against one spring-activated side of weather stringing. In another kind the sashes are counterbalanced by weights.Termes :
