Date :Définition
A type of high temperature gas-cooled reactor developed in Germany in which the core is a huge bin of pebble-shaped ceramic fuel balls.
Note :
Each ball contains both fissile fuel and carbon moderator. Helium is used as coolant and this is blown up through the pebbles which are slowly shaken to the bottom of the bin as the reactor operates. If sufficiently irradiated, they are removed; if some usable fuel remains they are re-introduced via the top of the reactor.

- pebble-bed reactor
