Write-once drives require a more powerful laser than read-only drives and the metal film is predeposited on the disk and pitted directly by the write laser. The disk is read either by a second laser, sometimes at a different wavelength, or by the same laser but at a lower level of power. Since all writable optical media show readable marks immediately, a technique often used in systems with aseparate read laser is to read the data that has just been written to verify that it is correct. This technique is known as DRAW - Direct Read After Write.
