Définition :
Ensemble d'éléments réunis en vue de donner passage à un courant. Lorsqu'ils constituent un parcours fermé à travers lequel peut circuler un courant, on dit du circuit qu'il est fermé; lorsque le parcours n'est pas fermé, on dit du circuit qu'il est ouvert.
Notes :
Un circuit ayant une fonction déterminée peut être spécifié d'après sa fonction (exemple : circuit d'appel, de conversation, d'alimentation, etc.).
Dans l'usage courant, on utilise également ce terme pour désigner un assemblage de parcours ou une partie déterminée d'un parcours complet.
