Définition :
Différence de potentiel due à la présence d'une charge d'espace au voisinage de la cathode.
Notes :
Chute (de tension) cathodique.
Pour une décharge luminescente, on distingue la chute cathodique normale, qui est indépendante du courant de décharge, la cathode étant recouverte incomplètement par la lueur (la densité de courant reste constante) et la chute cathodique anormale, qui dépend du courant de décharge, la cathode étant complètement recouverte pour la lueur (la densité de courant est variable).

Note :
In the case of a glow discharge a distinction is made between the normal cathode fall [drop], which occurs when the glow does not cover the cathode completely (with constant current density) and which is independent of the current in the discharge, and the abnormal cathode fall [drop], which occurs when the glow covers the cathode completely (with increased current density) and which depends on the current in the discharge.
