indice de stabilité de Showalter
- Domaine

Note :
Termes :
- indice de stabilité de Showalter n. m.
- indice de stabilité de Whiting n. m.

Convective index of the likelihood of thunderstorm occurrence, derived from a sounding.
Note :
It is obtained by finding the temperature (YC) which would be attained by adiabatic ascent of the air from 850 to 500 hPa and subtracting this from the air temperature at 500hPa. Thunderstorms become more probable the more the idex lies below the threshold value of +4°.
