Structures at or below the surface of the ground that transfer loads from the building to the ground.
Note :
Building foundations are generally regrouped into two broad categories (shallow or deep) depending on where the loads are transferred in the ground (surface/near-surface of the soil or farther down to a subsurface layer or a range of depths). The most common shallow foundations include post and pad, strip footing and slab-on-grade foundations. Deep foundations consist essentially of piles made of different materials, of different sizes, in various shapes and configurations depending on the application.
