Helical gears are referred to as right- or left-hand in the same manner as screw threads, a right-hand gear being one on which the teeth twist clockwise as they recede from an observer looking along the axis.
Gear teeth of transmission gears are of two principal types, spur and helical. The helical gear is superior in that it runs more quietly and is stronger because more tooth area is in contact.
It is obvious that the circular pitch will increase as the helix angle increases; therefore, the greater the helix angle, the fewer the teeth in a helical gear as compared to a spur gear of the same pitch diameter and diametral pitch.Termes :
- helical gear
- gear with helical teeth
- helical gear wheel
