Engrenage gauche constitué de deux roues hélicoïdales conjuguées.
Note :
Type d'engrenage utilisé pour de grands rapports de réduction (jusqu'à 20) avec de faibles charges. Il comporte la même géométrie de denture que les engrenages parallèles à denture hélicoïdale.

Where shafts cross obliquely, motion is transmitted by crossed helical gears. The teeth are helical but differ from the teeth of worm gears in that no one tooth (thread) makes a complete turn on the pitch circle. Pitch surfaces of crossed helical gears are cylindrical as with spur gears. However, with crossed shafts, the oblique teeth have point contact rather than the line contact that occurs with parallel shafts.
Crossed axis helical gears are usually cut in the same manner as conventional helical gears using identical tooling, since they are, until mounted on their crossed axes, actually nothing more than conventional helical gears! Since crossed helical gears have a great deal of sliding action, special attention must be given to the selection of gear materials and their lubricants to reduce friction to a minimum and eliminate any possibility of seizing between mating gears.Termes :
