Définition :
En matière de mobilier, on désigne ainsi une table dont la destination est d'être appliquée le long d'un mur, où elle est parfois scellée.
Note :
Sous Louis XIV, la console était une table ornée sur trois côtés et à quatre pieds. À la fin du règne, elle perd ses pieds postérieurs pour devenir le meuble type que nous connaissons.

Side, console and pier tables are tables intended to stand against the walls of a room and ornamented with a view to their situation. Console-tables are so called because they are of bracket construction and fixed against a wall, without legs at the back. Pier-tables are designed to stand between the windows of a room and side-tables are used as serving-tables.
