Définition :
nœud ascendant de l'orbite apparente du Soleil (écliptique) dans le plan de l'équateur terrestre.
Note :
Selon qu'il s'agit de l'équateur vrai ou moyen, on obtient le point vernal vrai ou moyen. Le point vernal sert d'origine pour les ascensions droites et les longitudes célestes; il intervient aussi dans la définition du temps sidéral.
