Partie du flanc de vallée sur laquelle s'appuie le barrage.
Note :
On construit quelquefois un appui artificial, sous forme d'une culée-poids, pour recevoir la poussée d'un barrage-voûte, quand il n'y a pas d'appui naturel convenable.
