A gate in which roller trains are introluced between bearing surfaces in the gates and on the frames attached to the piers or abutments. The rollers travel at half the speed of the gate to the frame. Axle friction is eliminated and roller friction only is developed.
Note :
Stoney gates, so called because of their inventor F:G:M: Stoney The fundamental difference between Stoney and fixed wheel gates is that in the former a moving train of rollers is substituted for the fixed wheels in the latter.
