The best known and most commonly occurring of these pests is the green peachleaf louse mycus persicae which is also regarded as a spreader of tobacco stem rot. Y-virus. It is transferred from the peach to the potato and eventually to tobacco which it damages considerably by sucking the juice from the leaves. Apart from the mycus species of leaf lice, similar attacks are made by acyrthosiphon, aphis favae, aphis gossypii and meomycus. Attempts have therefore been made at accurate research into the construction and method of work, the temperature conditions in these attacks and many other living habits of the leaf lice. Other types of white fly must also be considered as dangerous carriers of diseases, for example the Bemisia species. This insect causes the disease also known as leaf curl and is dreaded all over the world because of the curl disease. The white fly species lays its eggs on the underside of the tobacco leaves; the hatched out larvae cause the damage by sucking. The aphides already mentioned can be successfully controlled. tests have been made with Systox and Tetasystox sprays, but E 605, Pacol, Alathion, Gution, Diazinon, Isolan, etc. are just as effective.
