Date :Définition
Pipe in which both the bowl and the stem are made of cherry-wood.
Note :
The mouthpiece is made from one of the well-known special mouthpiece materials. The bowls are not usually cut from the wood of the trunk but from branches of a suitable thickness. That is why such bowls are usually still covered by the brownish to silver grey bark. The following types are differentiated: 1) pipes from the so-called Baden cherry, Turkish cherry (prunus mahaleb) which is grown particularly in the area of Mattersburg (Burgenland mahaleb wood). The trees are pruned so that eventually they look like white willows. The straight shoots are cut whenever they reach the required tickness. They also serve as raw material for cigar and cigarette holders. The name "Baden Cherry" refers to the town of Baden near Vienna. 2) Pipes made in France from the cherry of the bird-cherry or the wild cherry (bot. prunus avium). The French name is "pipes en cerisier".
