The most important viruses of bacterial diseases of tobacco are: bacillus solanaceanum (slijmzietke, Granville wilt, bacterial wilt), bacillus nicotianae (wilt disease), erwinia nicotiana (wet rot of nerve system), bacillus aroideae, pectobacterium carotovorum (dry rot, hollow stalk), phytomanas tumefaciens (tumour formation and rotting of root), bacillus carotovorus (wet rot), bacterium tabacum (pseudomonas tabaci, wildfire), bacterium angulatum (pseudomonas angulata, blackfire, angular leaf spot), bacterium melleum (pseudomonas mellae, Wisconsin leaf spot), pseudomonas polycolor (Philippine leaf spot disease), pseudomonas pseudozooglaeae (black, dark-green rust, Indonesian leaf spot disease), bacterium aeruginorus (virus of tobacco cancer), bacillus caulivorus (virus of a special root disease occurring in Sicily), pseudomonas xanthochlora (leaf spot disease, Germany), bacillus tabacivorus (virus causing rot on stalk above the root stock, France).
Virus diseases are generally controlled as follows: 1) by prophylactic measures in the cultures such as e.g. steaming of the seedbed soil; 2) by prophylactic chemical control with preparations; 3) by breeding resistant plants. Control of bacterium solanacearum: steaming of the seedbed soil, hygienic measures, appropriate rotation of crops (compost manuring), growing of resistant grades; means of control of dry and wet rot have not yet been discovered; control of virus of leaf spot disease: steaming of seedbed soil, correct fertilisation and measures in cultivation, spraying with copper-containing substances, sterilisation of the seedbeds with mordant solutions.Terme :
