A technique used to describe the pattern of mortality and survival in populations. Can also be used to study not only death but also any defined endpoint such as the onset of disease or the occurrence of specific complications of disease.
Note :
The two main types are the current (or period) life table, which is a summary of mortality experience over a brief period with the population data relating to the middle of that period, and the cohort (or generation life) table which describes the actual survival experience of a group, or cohort, of individuals born at about the same time.
