Nous proposons dactyloscope car il ne se rencontre que dans des ouvrages traduits. Le terme vient de dactylo-, « doigt » et de -skopos (de skopein, « examiner, observer »). Le dactyloscope peut être celui qui examine les empreintes, et le dactylotechnicien celui qui recueille et révèle les empreintes sur les lieux d'un crime. Cependant, comme en anglais, les termes sont interchangeables, car le plus souvent, la même personne exécute les différentes tâches.

The difference between expert, examiner and technician is not clear for one can perform the duties of the other (collection, study, development, photography). "In small departments, usually the same person functions as technician and identification bureau operator ((...))".
The title will depend upon the tasks assigned to the person and of each bureau's vocabulary. However, fingerprint expert, as our definition signals, includes all possibilities.Termes :
