With growing acceptance of kenaf as a jute substitute, it has been given increasing consideration as a raw material for pulp and paper. Kenaf grows as a stalk with a woody core containing very short fiber and pithy material, and a bark which contains the good bast fiber of long length adequate for production of burlap bags, household twine, yarns, carpet backing, and other materials requiring a soft fiber... Because the kenaf fiber is quite long, it can be blended with shorter fibered pulps, such as bagasse pulp, to obtain the necessary tearing resistance for bag and wrapping paper. It can also be used for specialty paper requiring high tearing resistance.
