That property of a paper which yields printed matter of good quality. This complex property is not accurately defined; it is judged by uniformity of color of the printed areas, uniformity of ink transfer, contrast between the printed and unprinted areas, ligibility of the printed malter, and rate of ink selting and drying. Ink receptivity, compressibility, smoothness, opacity, color and resistance to picking are among the simple properties which jointly determine prin-printability.
Note :
Printability should be distinguished form runnability which refers to the efficiency with which the paper may be printed and handled in the press.
