A paper with a high degree of resistance to alkali, used in the wrapping and packaging of alkaline materials such as soaps, adhesives, etc. An important characteristic of this paper is stability of color without appreciable discoloration when wet with 1 % sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) or 40° Baume sodium silicate. It is made with a variety of pulp furnishes, primarily semi bleached and fully bleached chemical wood pulps. Many book papers have this property along with glassine and waxed papers.
