Définition :
Privilège, pour un aéronef d'un État, d'effectuer du transport commercial entre deux États tiers.
Note :
Improprement appelées « libertés » - puisqu'aussi bien leur objet est de réglementer l'Air, donc d'en nier la liberté - ces autorisations, négociables entre États, couvrent les besoins techniques et commerciaux des services aériens internationaux.

The privilege to take on in the territory of the other State passengers, cargo and mail destined for a third State and the privilege to put down passengers, cargo and mail from any such territory, eg. AC London - Bombay and Bombay - Singapore.
Notes :
Fifth freedom rights must be negociated from both of the other countries involved before operations may begin, i.e. 5ths cannot be operated on a directional basis.
