Note :
On a l'habitude de définir la perméabilité à l'air des papiers et cartons par un « indice de porosité » (Afnor) déterminé à partir de la mesure du débit d'air s'écoulant à travers un spécimen de l'échantillon considéré.

That property of a sheet which allows the passage of air when a pressure difference exists across the boundaries of the specimen.
Note :
It is evaluated by obtaining the rate of flow of air through a specimen of given dimensions under standard conditions of pressure, pressure difference, temperature, and relative humidity. The ability of a package to "breathe" depends upon the air permeability of the paper to various gases (odors, volatile flavorings, etc.) correlates with air permeability; this would not be true for gases or vapors (like water vapor), for which the paper has a strong affinity.
