Date :Définition
Stress corrosion cracking is cracking caused by the simultaneous presence of a tensile stress and a specific corrosion inducing medium.
Note :
The metal or alloy surface will appear virtually unaffected while fine cracks progress through it. Some metals and alloys are susceptible to stress corrosion when stressed in the presence of contaminant commonly present in water, aqueous fluid, or in the atmosphere. Collector components may be subject to substantial residual stresses resulting from their fabrication. In addition, thermal cycling during operation may introduce applied stresses. Typical system component designs and operating conditions may be such that it is virtually impossible to avoid residual or applied stresses. The metals used in solar system components should be limited to those which are not susceptible to stress corrosion when in contact with the anticipated heat transfer liquid or atmospheric corrodents.
