A zero crossing is where the "value" of a "function" passes from positive to negative or vice-versa.
Notes :
In "computer vision" it is often taken to mean a location in the "grey level image" function where the rate of intensity change is either a local maximum or minimum in the first derivative, or where it crosses zero, and thus changes its sign, in the second derivative.
Because it marks the place where the image intensity changes most rapidly in a local area the second derivative zero crossing is a good candidate for an "edge point".Terme :
