Polyacrylic acid and polymethacrylic acid are water-soluble and may be components of soil conditioners, textile sizings, thickening agents, etc. Polymethylmethacrylate is a hard, transparent polymer with excellent light transmission properties; it may be used in the form of a water dispersion as a paint base or with organic solvents in the formulation of lacquers. Polybutylmethacrylate is used in finishes for textile and leather products. Acrylic resins can be cross-linked by copolymerization with low percentages of an anhydride. Polyacrylonitrile fibers are also a member of this group.
