Définition :
Transmission, d'une génération à l'autre, d'un caractère lié à un gène situé sur le segment non homologue (portion qui est différente sur les chromosomes Xet Y) d'un chromosome sexuel.
Notes :
Il s'agit généralement d'une tare récessive située sur cette portion du chromosome X qui n'apparaît que chez le garçon, ce gène étant masqué chez la fille par le gène normal dominant de l'autre chromosome X.
Notion opposée à celle d'hérédité autosomique.

Sex-linked inheritance is transmitted by female sex chromosomes (X). If one of the mother's X chromosomes carries a recessive gene for a condition, each of her children will have a 50 % chance of inheriting that gene. If the child is a son, he will manifest the condition because he does not have a second protective X chromosome. A daughter will be a carrier unaffected by the condition even though she will be able to pass the gene on to her sons. A father with a sex-linked condition cannot pass it on to his son but can pass it on to his daughter.
"X-linked" is used synonymously with "sex-linked" since no genetic disorders have as yet been associated with genes on the Y chromosome.Termes :
