Date :Définition
The conversion of liquid petroleum products into gaseous fuels or feedstock.
Note :
Oil gasification was practised increasingly in the 1960s as the gas industry began to move away from coal as its primary fuel. Petroleum products, and naphtha in particular, were extremely cheap and conversion processes were developed which made oil gasification an economic proposition. Later on, techniques to convert light distillate into a synthetic natural gas, in contrast to a town gas substitute, were developed and most SNG manufactured today is made from petroleum derivatives. In the future, coal-based SNG may predominate as oil feedstock becomes increasingly scarce and expensive. Oil gasification processes producing hydrogen for ammonia manufacture, established for some years, will doubtless continue as long as oil is required as a source of hydrogen.
