Date :Définition
Removal or neutralization of unwanted radioactive, chemical and biological contamination from liquids, vapours and porous bodies and from the surfaces of solid bodies by chemical or physical processes.
Notes :
In general, the removal of dirt, stains, infectious organisms, etc., from an area or a material; specifically, this term refers to treatment of clothing, equipment, buildings, and the like to remove radioactive substances to which they have been exposed.
Standard methods of decontamination include thorough washing with a soap/water solution, or with potassium permanganate solution with subsequent application of 5 % sodium bisulfite. Sequestering agents such as ethylenediaminetetra-acetic acid are also effective. Stream blast can be used on buildings and metals. The effectiveness of the decontamination can be checked with a radiation counter. Clothing contaminated with radiation products should be treated as described, rather than by commercial cleaning methods.Terme :
