Date :Définition
Any substance that prolongs the useful life of an organic material, usually in low concentrations.
Note :
Though generally applied to food additives such as benzoic acid, acetic acid, and ascorbic acid, which have antimicrobial and antioxidant value, the term applies equally well to antioxidants used in petroleum products, rubber, and similar materials. It also included the various alcohols and aldehydes used in preventing deterioration of biological specimens, e.g., formaldehyde, though in this case a high concentration is necessary, either by injection or immersion.
