Earth consisting of very fine grained powdery masses of opal or the silicious remains of microscopic animals called diatoms.
Notes :
It is used in jewellery and lapidary work for polishing.
It has considerable ability to absorb liquids and thus finds use as a decolorizing and purifying agent. Its most important applications are as a filter medium, as a diluent in many types of industrial mixtures, in paper coatings, and as a carrier for catalysts. Its low conductivity of heat and sound account for its use in both thermal and acoustic insulation.Termes :
- diatomaceous earth
